Artists made their way over here after the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake to rebuild a broken city with their talents. They opened their first community cultural center in 1907 where actors put on performances for the town.
Scientists found this community interestingly perfect for initiating the Carnegie Institution established the Coastal Laboratory. This caused a number of scientists to move to the area to conduct further research for both wildlife and sea creatures.
With an extended stop in the Monterey Peninsula, famous for its spectacular ocean views, abundant wildlife, and historical past, you may not want to get back on the bus! You can make stops at Cannery Row, made famous by writer John Steinbeck, and visit their small shops and elegant restaurants overlooking the Pacific, not to mention the world-famous Monterey Aquarium that offers a ton of family fun!
