Clean, comfortable bus. We had plenty of time to explore the magnificent redwoods of Muir Wood and lunch at the quaint town of Sausalito. Our guide , Judith, was very friendly and interested in the backgrounds of those on the tour. She provided good information without overloading us.

Muir Woods was a great destination. It would have been good to have a bit more time there. I'm not sure the Sausalito part was worthwhile. We had 52 minutes in Sausalito and if you weren't going back on the ferry it wasn't worth the stop. One negative was the commentary on the bus. It was overly loud and the driver did not stop talking for even a minute. The commentary wasn't necessarily about the tour and the driver rambled on about his personal life.

In early June we finished our visit to San Francisco with Gray Line's Muir Woods & Sausalito Tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our driver, Doug was very good in preparing us with suggestions on how to enjoy this magical & educational experience. This is not just a 'walk in the woods'. Honor the silence of the forest, and volumes are spoken in the majesty and beauty of these giants of history. The tour then proceeded to Sausalito where I purchased a shirt from one of the shops on the promenade. Upon return to our hotel, I realized I had left it on the tour bus! This was not an inexpensive souvenir so I immediately called the 'lost and found' on the company's website. Information was taken & I was told to return to the pick up point the next day to speak to someone. I was greeted by Richmond Yoberd, Director of Operations, who had texts about my lost item. Yes, the bag with the shirt had been found when the bus was cleaned last evening at their terminal near the airport. Because we were leaving for Monterey for 3 days & had checked out of our hotel, he arranged for 'the bag' to be delivered to our airport hotel between 12:30 & 1 pm the day before our departure home. It was delivered at12:30 & held by the hotel. Our trip to San Francisco & Monterey had been planned as part of our 40th anniversary travel this year. Not only did we get to return to one of our favorite places in the world, but got to experience again the song lyrics - the 'kindness and gentleness of the people there' and the mystical, almost spiritual beauty of those giants watching over this part of the coast.

It was an excellent day to Muir Woods and Sausalito. We were picked up on time, across the street from where Gray Line once had a storefront office. We had a brand new van, and Judith was both a great driver and a wonderful tour guide. She had lots of interesting facts to share along the way. Though everyone else departed Sausalito by ferry, Judith took me back to the city and left me off in a perfect space to catch my bus home. Highly recommend this trip for those who are unable to access Muir Woods by car.

Itinerary

Escape from the bustling streets of San Francisco on a half-day excursion to Muir Woods National Park and the charming Sausalito, often hailed as the prettiest village in California!

Embark on a journey across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and traverse the rugged coastal mountains of Marin County. Marvel at the stunning vistas of the San Francisco Bay and the valleys that were once home to the Coastal Miwok. Our initial destination is the Muir Woods National Monument, where ancient groves of Giant Redwoods (Sequoia Sempervirens) stand tall along Redwood Creek. The entrance fee for Muir Woods is included in all our tour options (a $15 value), and you'll have 90 minutes to explore the park at your own pace.

Afterward, pay a visit to the delightful coastal town of Sausalito, a Mediterranean-style gem adorned with charming shops, art galleries, and waterfront eateries. If an hour in Sausalito isn't sufficient for you, you can extend your visit and return to San Francisco at your leisure by ferry. The ferry fare is not included unless you opt for this upgraded choice during booking. The ferry ride provides stunning views of Alcatraz Island and the San Francisco skyline and takes approximately 20 minutes, docking at Pier 41 in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf.

If you prefer to return by bus, simply relax on our comfortable buses, and we'll transport you back to San Francisco to conclude this memorable day. We'll drop you off at the same departure locations: 478 Post St. (Union Square) or 2805 Leavenworth (Fisherman's Wharf Area).
