On September 15th,2018 we Waite din like to get on the hop on hop off bus for over an hour. Later that day the bus to continue the tour after returning from Sausalito did not sure up, bus troubles again apparently. We have used hop on hop off in different cities. This was the worst yet.

The route was good, but we booked Gray Line based on our experience with how good the live guides were on the buses in New York and most of the narrative on the SF buses was pre-recorded and we didn't get any of the personal experiences or entertaining stories from the live guides.

Tour Itinerary

Alcatraz, experience the legendary island that has been a Civil War Fort, a military prison and one of the most notorious federal penitentiaries in US history. Your trip to Alcatraz will begin at Pier 33 home of Alcatraz Cruises. Your day tour ticket will include your boat transportation to and from the island, the new cell house audio tour and orientation film. Highlights of the audio tour include narration from former prisoners and correctional officers, accounts of escape attempts and tours through the prison mess hall, library, main cell block and solitary confinement. Alcatraz is the home to numerous seabirds, many of which use the island for their breeding and nesting ground.

Explore San Francisco at your own pace with a pass for the hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus and bike combo, and marvel at the sights from an open-top double decker bus or experience them close up. The 48 Bus Ticket offers many extra including two free walking tours, the Golden Gate Trolley Tour and the Sausalito Cable Car Tour which gives you access to the other side of San Francisco Bay.

Climb aboard a double-decker bus and loop the city center at your own pace. The bus passes 24 stops, strategically positioned to serve the most popular landmarks and shopping centers. Hop off to explore the city on your own then jump on the next bus to travel to your next destination.

  • NEW Golden Gate Park Trolley is the only hop on hop off route that takes you all the way out to Ocean Beach, the extraordinary Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum, and the family-favorite San Francisco Zoo. The Legion of Honor, a stunning French Neo-Classical building siting atop a hill over the city, Golden Gate, and Pacific Ocean, is a Fine Arts Museum with a collection which spans over 4 millennials of history. The trolley will also stop at the San Francisco Zoo, an urban oasis home to over 2,000 exotic, endangered, and rescued animals.

The Sausalito Loop takes you to the other side of San Francisco Bay to the beautiful coastal town of Sausalito. Enjoy panoramic views of San Francisco Bay on a round-trip route from South Vista Point of the Golden Gate Bridge to downtown Sausalito. You are free to spend as much time in Sausalito as you choose.

San Francisco is rich in culture and history. The Hop on Hop off ticket also includes two FREE walking tours recounting San Francisco's riveting past from the days of the Gold Rush Daze to Na the Legendary Summer of Love. The itinerary and map with help you determine you route and won't let you miss any of the "must see" sights of the City by the Bay.
